In a bid to combat the prevalent drug abuse and mob lynching incidents, an awareness meet on drug abuse and mob lynching was organized at Orang Police Station in Udalguri on Sunday, on the eve of the Raising Day of Assam Police.

The meet, presided over by educationist Keshab Chandra Baruah, was organized by Udalguri Police.

Addressing the function, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), Udalguri, Moidul Islam, observed that the growing incidents of crimes in State are inextricably linked to the alcohol menace and prevalence of substance abuse and drug addiction among youths.

He further said that these are the grievous challenges confronting the children which if not controlled appropriately can destroy the whole generation.

“The menace of substance abuse among the school-going children is on the rise and though the police have acted tough against the drug suppliers it is the parents and teachers, who have a pivotal role to join hands in fighting against the menace of drug abuse,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Officer-in-Charge, Orang Police Station, Gagan Chandra Deka exhorted the conscious circles to combat the problem and sought community initiatives to prevent the upcoming generation from falling to dangerous grips of drugs.

He also appealed to the public to seek police help in need of hour.
