Assam: Patients take advantage of Lifeline Express services

People in large numbers on Saturday thronged the Gauripur railway station in Dhubri to avail free medical service provided by the Lifeline Express.

The Lifeline Express or the Jeevan Rekha is the world’s first hospital on the train that runs in India.

It began in 1991 and was a collaboration between the Impact India Foundation (IIF), Indian Railways (IR) and the Health Ministry.

The train arrived in Dhubri last week but was formally inaugurated jointly by Dhubri DC Ananta Lal Gyani and IIF trustee Rohini Chowgule.

The train will be providing medical services in the district for the next 21 days till February 8.

On Saturday, around 400 patients registered their names, while the overall response was good, officials informed.

“We will provide diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment totally free of cost to all needy persons,” said Rohini Chowgule.

“We offer eye surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedic treatment and treatment of oral, breast and cervical cancers,” Chowgule added.

DC Ananta Lal Gyani urged the residents to avail the medical service in large scale at Lifeline Express.

The Lifeline Express is the world’s first hospital on the wheels.
