Dima Hasao bridge collapses

Guwahati: A partially constructed bridge on National Highway 27 in Assamโ€™s Dima Hasao district collapsed on Sunday, February 22, injuring one worker.

The accident took place at Dolai Chunga in the Harangajao area. The bridge was part of ongoing work on the Nrimbangloโ€“Harangajao stretch, a vital route connecting remote parts of the district.

The project was contracted to DRA, and authorities confirmed the structure was incomplete when the section gave way.

Reports suggest a portion of the bridge suddenly fell, along with concrete slabs and construction materials. The injured worker received immediate medical attention at a local facility, and no fatalities were reported.

District officials and police teams rushed to the site to examine the situation. A thorough investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse.

The Nrimbangloโ€“Harangajao section is crucial for improving connectivity in Dima Hasao, a district with challenging terrain that has long affected transportation. The bridge is part of broader plans to upgrade road infrastructure in Assamโ€™s hill districts and enhance links with other areas of the state.

Authorities have confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway. Updates on the incident will be shared once the investigation is complete.
