Bajali: Serious concerns have been raised over road safety and parental responsibility following a major accident involving a car driven by Class 10 students in Assam’s Bajali district.
The incident occurred on the Bhagmara-Indi–Bhutan road when a Maruti Swift collided with a tractor.
According to local sources, four school-going students were travelling in the Swift at the time of the accident.
Two of the injured were immediately rushed to a nearby medical college and hospital for treatment.
Later, three of them were referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where they were reported to be in serious condition.
Eyewitnesses stated that the car rammed into the tractor under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Police personnel arrived at the spot soon after the incident and launched a preliminary inquiry.
The accident has once again highlighted a serious violation of traffic laws, as individuals below 18 years of age are legally prohibited from driving motor vehicles on public roads under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Despite this, it is alleged that some parents continue to allow their minor children to drive, putting not only their lives at risk but also endangering other road users.
Local residents have expressed strong concern, calling such parental negligence extremely dangerous.
They have urged authorities to take strict action against parents who allow minors to drive and to intensify awareness campaigns on traffic rules and road safety.
The incident serves as a grim reminder that road safety begins at home, and careless decisions can have life-threatening consequences.
