At least 30 workers belonging to BJP and Congress from different Village Panchayats and blocks in south Assam’s Cachar district joined the TMC (All India Trinamool Congress) on Friday.

They joined the party in the presence of Sushmita Dev, the new TMC Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal.

Anadi Bhattacharjee, who was in charge of the BJP Social Media cell alleged that while he and others in the saffron camp had toiled hard for the party at the grassroots, the party appeared to drift away from its core principles in recent times.

He said that as a dedicated foot soldier of the party, he worked for over two decades and gave his best, but the BJP of today is more of a Congress-oriented BJP.

“We feel increasingly deprived. Also, the youths of Barak Valley are being deprived of government jobs against which we will raise our voice under the leadership of Sushmita Dev,” he said.

Sushmita Dev said that she is happy to see the increasing trust of the people.

“In the present-day political scenario in the state and across the country, the dictatorship exhibited by the BJP is detrimental for the public interest. No one talks about mass welfare and development which is why around 34 youths have decided to join us and I am happy to welcome them to the AITC family. I assure them and people at large that together we will continue to work for the people,” she said.
