North Lakhimpur: Opposition Raijor Dal has flagged gross irregularities by the district election department in Assam’s Lakhimpur district concerning the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls of various LACs, citing bulk complaints and hearings conducted by a single Block Level Assistant (BLA).
Azizur Rahman, leader of Raijor Dal in Ranganadi LAC in Lakhimpur, alleged this.
Addressing the media, Raijor Dal General Secretary Azizur Rahman said on Tuesday that, as per the manual of the Election Commission of India (ECI), a person can file a complaint against only one electorate in the Electoral Rolls.
โBut here, a BLA has filed a complaint against one hundred or two hundred electorates in the Electoral Rolls, and the district election office forwarded those complaints and sent them for hearings without scrutinizing the facts,โ said Rahman.
He further added that, on a single day, a BLO or BLA can conduct hearings for only ten electorates and alleged that hundreds of hearings had been arranged against a single BLO or BLA on a single day at various centres of Ranganadi, Bihpuria, and Nowboicha LACs in Lakhimpur district.
Taking note of these irregularities regarding the Special Revision, the Raijor Dal leader demanded the suspension of the complaints and hearings in Lakhimpur district.
He also complained about inadequate conditions for women with children, lack of toilet facilities, and poor ventilation at hearing centres in Lakhimpur district.
