Efforts are on in Assam’s Darrang district to drive home a rhino which strayed out of the Orang National Park.

Joint efforts from forest staff of the Orang National Park and Mangaldai Territorial Forest Beat Office besides police of Shyampur Police Station are stated to be still on to drive the full grown straying rhino back to the Park without any damage being done.

“Since Saturday morning we along with the staff of Mangaldai Territorial office and Shyampur police are trying to drive the rhino back to the forest,” said an on duty forest guard of the National Park.

“Two elephants of the forest department have also been placed into service,” the forest guard added.

One Barek Ali, a resident of No 2 Shyampur village was admitted to Mangldai Civil Hospital on Saturday with minor injuries when he had been attacked by the rhino which had sneaked into the residential areas surrounding the south west border of the Park.
