Darrang police on Sunday evening nabbed one Billal Ali (20) S/O Mantaz Ali, a resident of Paniakhat village in connection with the sensational incident of attack on the inmates of Dhula based Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya.
Billal has been booked in the Dhula PS case no. 419/18 u/s 448/363/511/34 IPC, informed a senior Darrang police official. In the preliminary police interrogation the accused whose residence is close to the school campus has confessed his involvement in the incident on the night of September 16. Police have been continuing its search operation for the other associates of Billal.

Earlier the district administration directed the authority of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya at Dhula to take steps to bring back the inmates of the residential school. The district administration’s directive came after all the fifty four inmates left the school on September 17 in panic following physical threats by unidentified miscreants on the previous night.
Uncertainty looms large for the last six days as the parents of the girls refuse to send their daughters to the school citing safety and security issue.
Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman and Superintendent of Police Sreejith T on Saturday visited the school to take stock of the situation and possible security measures. Talking to media Superintendent of Police informed that two home guard jawans have been deployed as means of security measure of the inmates while the police have already identified the miscreants who have been absconding to avoid arrest.

Altogether 54 girl students studying in the residential girls’ secondary level school under the HRD Ministry left for home after unidentified miscreants with their faces covered barged into the hostel premises and tried to break open the door of the main boarding hall. The panic stricken girls then raised hue and cry and the warden of the hostel called up police.
The miscreants fled from the scene before the arrival of the police. They came back again and started pelting stones and hurling abusive language when the police had left the spot.
