Assam: NSCN (K) militant held with arms in Cachar

An NSCN (K) militant has been arrested at Lakhipur in South Assam’s Cachar district.

Police said acting on an intelligence input about the presence of militants, a team of Lakhipur police and Assam Rifles on Tuesday launched a joint operation at Namdailong village under Jirighat and nabbed the NSCN (K) cadre.

The arrested NSCN (K) rebel has been identified as Nambipou (29), a resident of Tamenglong district in Manipur.

Police said that on interrogation it was revealed that the arrested ultra is an NSCN (K) cadre and his rank is ‘Corporal’.

He confessed that he joined underground group ZUF in February 2016 and later in July 2018, he left ZUF and joined NSCN (K).

He was arrested from his hideout at his aunt’s place, said a police officilal.

Police recovered one .22 mm pistol, one magazine, seven rounds of .22 mm ammunition, two combat trousers, two combat shirts, one rifle sling with accesories, one pair of boot patti and one BSNL SIM card from his possession.
