The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has stated that it is ready to provide adequate electricity during Durga Puja.
“APDCL has also arranged additional 180 MW power from NEEPCO Kameng HEP to mitigate any market volatility and assured supply in this festive season,” APDCL said in a notification.
A severe power crisis was expected in Assam reportedly due to acute shortage of coal supply to thermal power plants.
“As dependency on Coal-based sources for Assam is very nominal, (the) impact of any coal crisis is restricted only to market volatility to that effect,” the APDCL said.

On Monday, the APDCL had issued a public circular stating that the power situation in Assam is at a “critical level”.
“NTPC Bongaigaon has also assured incremental generation of around 100 MW from tomorrow with additional racks of coal being transported. Already 50 MW enhanced for today,” it further said.
