Noted writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee Guneswar Muchahary breathed his last late Thursday night at his residence in Assam’s Gossaigaon.

He was 73 years old at the time of his demise.

He has been awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi in 2012 for his poetry book Boro Khonthai from the Government of India.

He is also a recipient of Someswari Brahma Literary Award for his poetry book Daina in 2010 from Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

He is remembered for his literary contributions to Bodo literature.

He published many books in Bodo language including Ha Fhisa Houwa (1981), Thunlai Bijirnai (1993), Daina (2008), Boro Khonthai etc.

Muchahary was the founder principal of Gossaigaon B Ed College.
