A loaded truck that skidded away on the National Highway-15 on the western entry point of North Lakhimpur on Sunday morning caused a huge traffic jam forcing the police to use a closed bridge undergoing renovation and repair work.

The incident occurred at Highjan in Ward No. 14 of North Lakhimpur when a ten-wheeler truck carrying geo-bags skidded down from NH-15 on the sub-way of Highjan bridge while taking a sharp turn.

The truck bearing registration number MH-03 CP 5368 and belonging to Mint Logistics was carrying geo-bags to Majuli via North Lakhimpur. The sharp turn of the sub-way for the Highjan bridge and the sandy roads sides have been blamed for the skidding of the truck with full loaded condition.

The truck fell about twenty feet from the road and slid precariously stopping just a few meters away from smashing a thatched house with several inmates. A tree in front of the house stopped the skidding truck from hitting the house.

Later at 12 o’clock in the day, the truck was retrieved back to the road with the help of two cranes. But this operation badly hit the normal flow of traffic on NH-15 in North Lakhimpur.

The North Lakhimpur Traffic Police stopped the sub-way for Highjan bridge on NH-15 for several hours for the movement of two cranes and allowed the vehicles to pass through the old bridge over Highjan. The bridge over Highjan has been closed for traffic for more than a year for repair and renovation works.
