As part of the modernisation works in Silchar Airport, the new check-in area with 8 counters and two self check-in kiosks were made operational on Friday.

The terminal building expansion and modernisation work at Silchar Airport in Kumbhirgram, 29 km from Silchar town in Assam’s Cachar district is going on at a rapid pace.

“The Terminal Building Expansion & Modernisation work at #SilcharAirport is under rapid progress. The new Check-in area with 08 counters & Two self check-in Kiosk has been made operational w.e.f 15.01.2021,” the Airports Authority of India, Silchar Airport tweeted.

“We are upgrading & adding amenities for passenger convenience,” it added.

On January 11, 2021, Silchar Airport recorded a new high of 1,712 passengers arriving and departing in 12 scheduled flights, registering an impressive load factor of more than 90%, Silchar Airport officials said.

The Silchar Airport was built by the British as RAF Station Kumbhirgram in 1944 and transferred to the Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF).

This is also a civil enclave airport as it is under the control of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Silchar Airport terminal can handle aircraft such as Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 and has a single asphalt runway with dimensions (7500 ft / 2286m).
