GUWAHATI: Nehru stadium in Guwahati city of Assam will be upgraded and transformed into an Olympics-level football stadium.

This was announced by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government has planned to invest Rs 600 crore for upgrade of the Nehru stadium in Guwahati.

“We are going to build India’s best football stadium in Guwahati,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.

CM Sarma also announced that the Assam government has begun construction of a multi-purpose stadium at Amingaon area, near Guwahati in Assam.

Furthermore, construction for a new multi-purpose stadium will soon begin at Chandrapur, which will include adequate facilities for players’ accommodation with new hostels being built, informed Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam CM also announced that the state government is planning to build a new games village and the state will soon host the national games.
