National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) has called for 12-hour Assam bandh on January 31 to resgister protest against CBI Special Court’s verdict that awarded life imprisonment to the outfit’s supremo Ranjan Daimary along with nine others in October 30, 2008 serial blasts case.

The NDFB in a statement issued to media has called for 12-hour Assam bandh on Thursday. The outfit had earlier stated that the peace process with Government of India would be affected if Ranjan Daimary was convicted and sent to jail.

Eighty-eight persons were killed and close to 500 injured in the serial blasts that rocked Guwahati city, Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Bongaigaon.

Meanwhile, Anjali Daimary, leader of Bodo Women Justice Forum and sister of Ranjan Daimary, asserted that the “fight” against the conviction and life imprisonment of her brother would continue in a higher court.

“It is a lower court verdict. We will keep on fighting. We will go to a higher court against the verdict delivered on Wednesday,” she said.

She said, “We would like to appeal to the Government of India that  the court’s verdict against the NDFB  should not be allowed to hamper the  peace process between the NDFB and Government of India. It is a very hard earned peace process that must continue.”

“There are several militant organisations in Assam. If the court here has convicted and imposed punishment on NDFB chief, Ranjan Daimary, the heads of the other militant organisations should also be convicted for their activities,” she said.

The NDFB faction led by Ranjan Daimary has been engaged with peace process with the Government of India since 2013.
