Former Naoboicha MLA Mamun Imdadul Haque Chaudhury on Friday resigned from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

The former AIUDF MLA was a general secretary of the party.

An advocate, Mamun Imdadul Haque Chaudhury also served the party as the chief whip of the AIUDF Legislature Party.

In his resignation letter (written in Assamese) to AIUDF president Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, which he uploaded on his Facebook page, Chaudhury said he has resigned both as the general secretary and primary member of the party.

He resigned from the party alleging the party’s “silence” over the police atrocity and killing of people during the eviction drive carried out at Sipajhar.

Referring to the denial of party ticket to Chaudhury despite his winnability in Naoboicha constituency, he wrote:  “All the people of Assam are aware of what the party has done with me in the last Assembly election.”

He said: “I was politically murdered instead of cooperating. I was still patient. Because no one cares if a common man like me is not in the legislative system!”

“But the environment that has been created due to eviction for the past few days has disturbed my mind. Eviction is a governmental process. There are definitely government rules and regulations,” the former MLA mentioned in the resignation letter.

“When I was the MLA, eviction was carried out at Sipajhar. Evictions also took place in areas like Amsang, Sootea. We sat with the administration and made efforts so that no unpleasant incidents happen. We were also successful.”

“As we do not support encroachment of government land, we also cannot support inhuman torture in the name of eviction. But this time, the party was not seen that it made any such efforts. Sticks hit a dead person! Inhuman torture on a dead body.”

“We have neither seen such things in our lifetime neither heard it. But this time it was a misfortune to see it. The heavy kick that the cameraman hit on the dead body has touched my heart. What an amazing cheer! We hope such incidents never repeat again,” he said in the letter.

He said the party is “extremely silent during this entire process”.

Chaudhury alleged that the AIUDF president was seen to react against the incident at a time when the Chief Minister even got time to clarify the government’s status.

The APCC president also found time to clarify the status of their party, he said.

“Almost every party and organization gets time to express their own status. But, you (AIUDF president) are so busy that you don’t have the right to tell people about your status in this time of danger. The unthinkable silence of the party in this extremely dangerous moment of the common man is beyond tolerance for a common man like me,” Chaudhury reacted.

“My soul no longer allows me to remain with this party. It’s been 15 years since we made a party saying that we would give patta to the people. Leave the land patta. Now the people are dragging with their lives. We need a deep self-analysis – president sahab!”

“There is the need for an innocent self-analysis which you (Ajmal) will never do. At least the experience of the past decades tells us that,” he said.

“Hence, through this letter, I have resigned from the post of general secretary of the party as well as the primary member. From today onwards I will not have any relations with the party,” he added.
