In fact, areas along the Assam Nagaland border have witnessed incidents of frequent skirmishes.  Towns such as Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Uriamghat and Karbi Anglong are located on the Assam-Nagaland Border.

In August 2014, some Naga miscreants reportedly burnt around 200 houses in seven border villages of Uriamghat area leading to forced displacement of around 10 thousand people of the area to refugee camps. The major issue behind these incidents appears to be the dispute over ownership and encroachment of land. The two states have been disputing their shared border ever since one was carved out of the other. Thus, such skirmishes have become a regular phenomenon.

Meanwhile, the Dhanshiri sub-division unit of the influential All Assam Students’ Union has threatened to launch economic blockade against Nagaland from Thursday protesting against the incident. The student wing of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and Chutia Students’ Union, have strongly condemned the incident of attack by the miscreants from Nagaland on Assam’s soil.
