Hundreds of Muslims joined the observation of Muharram in Assam’s Hojai on Tuesday.
On this occasion, a tazia procession was taken out by Muharram Tazia Commiitee from Gandhi Maidan.
The procession passed through the main thoroughfares of the town.
The Muslims all through the procession played with sticks and chanted ‘ya Hussain’.
The police and CRPF personnel were put into action for ensuring smooth passage of the procession.
Notably, Muharram marks the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Hussein Ibn Ali, who was killed in a battle in Karbala in present day Iraq in the seventh century.
