It was a heart-wrenching scene in Dinabandhu Das’s house at Basimari village in Kokrajhar district as his wife (a mother-of- two) – Sujala Das – committed suicide. She did not stop at that – prior to that she beheaded her two kids!

The woman was at the end of her tether – she could no longer bear the sufferings as well as the challenges that life had thrown up in her path.

While Dinbandhu was away, his 28-year-old wife Sujala Das beheaded her two children – 9-year-old Rimpa Das and two-year-old Diganta Das. After that, she poured kerosene on herself and committed suicide.

Dinbandhu’s both children were differently abled. A painter by profession, both Dinbandhu and his wife went through a lot of “sufferings” and were very much “distressed” because of their disabled kids.

Not one to give up, Dinbandhu had brought both his children to Guwahati for treatment (at GMC). Later, financial constraints forced him to treat his children in Fakiragram itself. Basimari Village falls under Fakiragram Police Station.

Penury and anxiety had ripped apart the family. But, Dinbandhu still carried on with his duties as a father. As usual, he had gone out to work on the fateful day. He never even thought in his wild dreams that he would come back home to see such a gory scene.

It was just gore and blood all over in his house and a body that had got completely burnt and almost reduced to ashes.

Two headless bodies of the innocent souls – the disabled children. So gruesome was the murder that the two-year-old kid’s tongue was hanging out! Sujala’s body had almost got completely burnt out.

News spread like wild fire and the Village Defence Party (VDP) informed the police. A team led by Kokrajhar DSP Puranjit Nath arrived at Dinbandhu’s house. After preliminary investigations, the cops sent the bodies for postmortem.

Nath said that only after the postmortem report comes and investigations are over, would a clear picture emerge as to what really happened.

He, however, suspected that it is most likely that the mother first beheaded her two kids and then committed suicide by setting herself on fire.
