Manipur Assam: POCSO accused convicted to life imprisonment in Bongaigaon

Guwahati: The jailer of the Morigaon District Jail in Morigaon, Assam was suspended on Friday after the alleged jailbreak by five under-trial prisoners.

Reports stated that the jailer, Prasanta Saikia was suspended within 24 hours of the incident.

Other officials of the said jail may as well face “punishment” postings, reports claimed.

Along with this, Manas Das, superintendent of the jail was transferred to Hemren Jail.

Following the transfers and suspensions, a magisterial-level inquiry was ordered into the incident which will be led by ADC Pallavi Kachary.

A District Commissioner order office read, “In view of the incident of escaping 5 nos. of POCSO Act UTP from District Jail, Morigaon on 11/10/2024 at about 12.00 AM to 02.00 AM, Smt. Pallavi Kachary, ACS, Addl., District Magistrate, Morigaon is hereby asked to conduct a Magisterial Enquiry into the entire incident and submit report urgently for further necessary action.” [sic]

Earlier on Thursday night, five under-trial prisoners in a case related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act escaped from the Morigaon District Jail.

They were identified as Saifuddin, Ziarul Islam, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid.

They allegedly broke the bars of the cell they were in. After this, they escaped from the cell and they scaled the jail wall with the help of some clothes.

The operation to nab the suspects is still on with no further leads, some reports claimed.
