Amid tension along the Assam-Mizoram inter-state border, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has sought necessary steps by the Centre to maintain peace and harmony along the border areas.

Chief minister Sonowal on Saturday called Union home minister Amit Shah over the situation and sought the necessary steps from Central government.

Miscreants from Mizoram allegedly hurled a bomb at a school at Upper Painom village near Hawaithang in south Assam’s Cachar district on Friday midnight. There was, however, no casualty.

Sonowal assured Shah that the State government would follow the Centre’s directives in managing the situation.

He also reviewed the current situation of Assam-Mizoram border at a meeting held at Janata Bhawan in Dispur on Saturday.

Chief secretary Jishnu Baruah apprised the chief minister of the present situation there, while DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta informed about the steps taken for keeping law and order situation in control.

The chief minister directed the top officials to maintain peaceful environment and keep brotherhood and harmony intact along the border areas.
