Assam: Missing Dhubri girl rescued from Siliguri’s red light area

A girl, who remained missing from Mutakhawa village under South Salmara police station of Lower Assam’s Dhubri district since last three months, has been rescued by police.

The girl, who had allegedly been trafficked, has been rescued from a red light area of Khalpara of Siliguri in West Bengal, police said.

On a tip-off, investigating officer Nayan Kumar in coordination with West Bengal’s local police carried out a raid at Khalpara in Siliguri on Friday and rescued the girl and brought back her to Dhubri.

Based on the information furnished by the father of the victim girl and statement of the rescued girl, “We have registered a case bearing No 212/2019 under section of 363 (Punishment for Kidnapping), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC,” informed by Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of South Salmara police station.

The girl alleged that a youth of her village, identified as Somej Ali and his friend Atowar, had lured her with false promise of marriage and then sold her in a red light area of Siliguri.

Efforts are being made to arrest the accused persons at the earliest, police said, adding that investigation is underway.

No any arrest has been made till filing of this report.

“Narrating her ordeal before the media persons, the girl, said that her lover Somej Ali brought her to Dhubri town three months ago with false promise of marriage and took her to Coochbehar of Bengal where she met with Jahangir and another women who later brought me to Siliguri and sold me initially in the hand of Puchki, than Manjur and finally to Pradip from where police has rescued me,” said police.

She further said that her buyers used to beat her brutally, and forced her into flesh trade for over a month till now.
