A trafficked minor girl from Assam’s Sonitpur district, who was sold in Arunachal Pradesh for Rs 1 lakh, has been rescued.

A team of Sonitpur police on Sunday rescued the 13-year-old girl from Poruwa in Tezpur, said a police official.

Police also arrested three people including a woman for their alleged involvement in the trafficking of the minor girl.

The arrested persons have been identified as Dul Baruah, Pravin Khandwal and his wife Sumi Khandwal.

The minor girl had been missing since August 5 and family members had lodged a missing compliant with Tezpur police station.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Tezpur police station under section 366, 370 of the IPC and police started an investigation, the official added.

“During the investigation, it was found that a 47-year-old man, identified as Dul Baruah of Gingia Biswanath Chariali, had trafficked the girl and sold her in Arunachal Pradesh for an amount of Rs 1 lakh,” the official said.

A team of Sonitpur district police on Sunday rescued the victim from Poruwa under Tezpur police station limits.

The police had recovered Rs 48,000 from their possession.
