Assam minister UG Brahma visits relief camps in flood affected Chirang district

As many as 113 families comprising of 538 people are currently taking shelter in relief camps set up in flood affected Chirang district of Assam. 

The displaced people include children, pregnant women, elderly and the sick.

On Thursday, Assam cabinet minister UG Brahma, Sidli MLA Joyanta Basumatary and UPPL working president Rwngwra Narzary visited the relief camps.  

The leaders extensively interacted with the affected people and promised immediate solution to their grievances. 

Interacting with the media minister UG Brahma, who also is the guardian minister for Chirang district said: “We have instructed the Chirang DDMA to take special measures to maintain the safety security of women and children, medicines for sick and elderly, milk for children, adequate food, potable drinking water and sanitation facilities.”

Incessant rains in recent days have resulted flood waters draining down from the hills of Bhutan and inundating several villages in Chirang district. 

Sidli MLA Joyanta Basumatary said, “We will take up the matter with the Government and arrange adequate compensation for relief and rehabilitation urgently.” 

UPPL working president Rwngwra Narzary said, “As reiterated by the chief minister in his policy document to make Assam flood free. We cannot neglect this region. Loss of lives, property and cattle needs to be addressed.”
