Doomdooma: Assam Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai, accompanied by Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala, on Wednesday visited the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and the waste-to-compost production centre at Ushanmati in Ward No. 1 of Doomdooma.
The inspection focused on assessing the functioning of the scientific waste management initiative, which aims to promote recycling, compost production, and cleaner urban surroundings. Prasanta Phukan, MLA, was also present during the visit.
“This facility is setting an example of how scientific waste management can transform communities. By converting waste into compost and ensuring the proper recovery of recyclable materials, we are taking a meaningful step towards a cleaner and healthier Doomdooma. Such initiatives will greatly benefit future generations,” Rupesh Gowala said during the visit.
According to an official statement issued after the inspection, the minister said the centre has created a model for scientifically processing municipal waste into compost while reducing pollution in the locality.
The initiative is intended to strengthen sustainable waste management practices and contribute to environmental protection through the effective segregation, recycling, and composting of waste.
According to the statement, the government believes that expanding such initiatives will play an important role in building a cleaner and healthier environment across Assam.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Government is committed to strengthening scientific waste management across the state. Today’s inspection reflects our resolve to support environmentally sustainable infrastructure that keeps our towns clean and improves the quality of life for citizens,” Gowala added.
