Assam Meghalaya cadre IPS officer Arvind Kumar has recently been appointed as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Wednesday had given the prestigious security post to the 1984 batch IPS officer of the Assam Meghalaya cadre.
Kumar who is currently the Special Director of the IB has been associated with the top security organization of the country since 1991.
He has resolved various security issues in Kashmir and has also been involved in tackling Naxal extremism at IB.
Kumar has also been awarded with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
He will now take over the prestigious post from Rajiv Jain, a 1980 batch IPS officer from the Jharkhand cadre.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is the chairman of the Appointments Committee had appointed Kumar as the director of IB on Wednesday.
Modi also appointed a 1984 batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre Samant Kumar Goel as the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief on Wednesday.
Goel played a main role in planning of the Balakot air strike.
