In view of the predicted rough conditions, an orange alert has been sounded over the entire Northeast for Saturday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a well-marked low pressure area lies over north coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal on Saturday morning.

Its presence is expected to bring scattered to widespread rainfall across northeast India, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers and thunderstorms likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday.

On Sunday, the conditions over the three states will slightly de-intensify, and they will receive isolated heavy rains along with Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Sunday and Monday.

However, on Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall will once again make a return over the entire northeastern region.

Accordingly, the IMD has placed the whole of northeast under orange alert (“be prepared” for rough conditions) on Saturday and Tuesday, while a yellow watch (“be aware” of local weather situation) will be issued over the region on Sunday and Monday.
