“We received information regarding the torture of a 12-year-old child at Milan Nagar area on Monday night. We went with our team and rescued the child from Dr Siddhi Prasad Deori’s residence,” said a member of the Dibrugarh Child Welfare Committee.

“We are shocked how a doctor can do such kind of inhuman torture to a child. The child had been working as a child labourer for the last one-and-half years at the doctor’s residence,” said the member.

The Dibrugarh Child Welfare Committee has filed an FIR at Dibrugarh police station.

“When we asked Dr Deori about the child’s original address he didn’t reveal it and told us that the child is the son of one of his relatives with the surname, Deori. Later we came to know that the child is from Jorhat with the surname, Bhuyan,” said the member.

Talking to the media, the child revealed that he has been staying in the residence of Dr Deori for one-and-half years.

“I am doing all kinds of work in their home. On Monday night, Dr Siddhi Prasad Deori poured boiling water on me when I was sleeping on the floor. I am originally from Jorhat and they didn’t permit me to contact with my father,” the child said.

Dibrugarh Police assured to the Child Welfare Committee that they would take action in the case within 24 hours.
