Guwahati: The police in Baksa, Assam destroyed a large quantity of seized alcohol on Sunday.

The operation, conducted on the banks of the River Pada in Hojua under Simla police station, saw the incineration of 220 cartons of confiscated liquor, valued at over Rs 2.5 lakh.

This confiscated liquor had been accumulated over the past few months from various locations within the jurisdiction of the Shimla police station. The destruction event served as a symbolic act, drawing attendance from local residents and representatives from various political parties, signifying community-wide support for the crackdown.

Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, Nilotpal Saikia, a police officer from the Shalbari sub-division, emphasized their commitment to public safety.

“This program marks a significant milestone in our efforts,” Saikia said.

He added, “Illicit liquor poses a serious threat to the well-being of our youth, and we are prepared to take legal action against anyone involved in this illegal trade, regardless of their influence.”
