A massive fire has gutted several houses and shops and damaged properties worth rupees 20 lakhs in Khatpathar in Darikapaar in Assam’s Sivasagar district.

The fire that broke out in a shop on Friday night grievously injured one person.

Locals later rushed the injured, Shankar Gogoi to the civil hospital in Sivasagar town.

The fire also completely damaged Gogoi’s house along with those of Baba Koch, Munu Koch, Manoj Koch and Rameshwar Chetia.

Five shops were completely damaged in the incident.

A short circuit in a shop located nearby is suspected to have caused the fire, though the exact reason is yet to be ascertained.

The fire grew in magnitude, damaging several buildings in the vicinity after three LPG cylinders reportedly exploded under its impact.

Several fire tenders arrived on the spot to bring the raging fire under control.

It took more than two hours for the firemen to completely douse the fire.
