Guwahati: Relief measures have been stepped up in flood-hit parts of Assam’s Tinsukia district, where the Margherita Co-District Administration is operating 14 shelters and relief distribution centres for families displaced by rising waters.
The administration has opened relief shelters and distribution points at Margherita Town LP School, Margherita Old Colony PWD Warehouse No. 1, Alubari LP School, No. 1 Fakiyal LP School, Khagoripather LP School, Likhajan LP School and Sat Joymoti LP School.
Maharam Boro LP School, Nabajyoti LP School, Mullang LP School, Bashbari LP School, Jagun LP School, Namphai Tapu Relief Distribution Centre and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi ME School are also being used to accommodate and assist flood-affected residents.
Authorities said every relief centre has been stocked with essential commodities such as rice, dal, cooking oil, salt, drinking water, tarpaulins and other items needed for daily living.
Arrangements for clean sanitation, electricity and other support services have also been made for displaced families.
Doctors and healthcare workers from Ketetong Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC) are regularly visiting the camps to examine patients, provide treatment and supply medicines to those in need.
Officials said priority care is being extended to vulnerable groups, with expectant mothers, breastfeeding women, infants and young children receiving nutritional assistance and specially prepared meals.
The administration has additionally begun supplying fodder for livestock to help farmers protect their cattle in flood-hit villages.
A dedicated Flood Control Room has been established at the office of the Circle Officer, Revenue and Disaster Management, Margherita Revenue Circle, to monitor the situation, coordinate field operations and respond to emergency calls.

Authorities have advised residents to rely on official updates, avoid entering unsafe areas and cooperate with rescue personnel and relief workers until the flood situation improves.
