Assam and Manipur are the only two states from Northeast which are witnessing an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases at present, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Thursday.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Puducherry are the other few states across India which have been witnessing an increasing trend in daily new cases.

However, all the states in the Northeast have less than 50,000 active cases.

Health ministry statistics said that the number of active Covid cases in Assam on April 30 was 2,694 whereas it has now increased to 5334.

Similarly, the active Covid cases in Manipur on April 30 was 205 whereas it has now increased to 526.

Although the number of active cases in the Northeast is not big, the issue of concern is that it is increasing daily, said Luv Aggrawal, joint secretary in the health ministry.

Meanwhile, Dr. VK Paul, member, Niti Aayog informed that as many as 8 companies including Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of Indian (SII) will be providing over 2 billion doses of vaccines to the Indian population between August to December.

Dr. Paul who is also the chairman of the national task force on Covid19 said that apart from a total of 216 crore doses will be available between August to December.

He said that 75.0 crore Covishield vaccine will be made available during the period followed by 55.0 crore Covaxin, 30.0 crore Bio E Sub unit vaccine, 05.0 crore Zydus Cadila DNA vaccine, 20.0 crore SII – Novavax, 10.0 crore Bharat Biotech’s nasal vaccine, 06.0 crore Gennova mRNA vaccine and 15.6 crore Sputnik vaccine.
