A man stabbed his landlord to death following a fight at the Mulukabasa area in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Tuesday night.

The man identified as Rajiv Sukran also killed his wife to hide the murder of his landlord. The bodies of the two persons were recovered on Tuesday morning.

Sources said a few days ago Kajal Bhumij and her husband Rajiv Sukran took a house of Sudhir Gogoi on rent and stayed there.

“Sudhir Gogoi got into a heated argument with Rajiv Sukran on Sunday night.  After the spat, Rajiv attacked Sudhir Gogoi with a sharp weapon killing him on the spot. Kajal had seen the incident and to hide the matter, Rajiv killed his wife as well and fled from the house,” said a police official.

Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, “We have found two bodies inside two separate rooms. Injury marks have been detected on both bodies.  Prima facie, it appeared that both of them were murdered.  We are investigating into the matter.”

The bodies were sent to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) for post mortem examination.

“On Sunday we have last seen Sudhir Gogoi after he came back from his shop. Yesterday, his room was locked from outside and we thought that he went to his relative’s house.  But today we found him dead in his room and another body of a woman was recovered from his rented house,” said a relative of Sudhir Gogoi.
