Dhubri police raided the residence of Jahirul Islam in Dhubri town and recovered 16 rounds of live ammunition of  AK-47 rifles.

A 45-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday from Dhubri town in western Assam for allegedly possessing live bullets, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, Dhubri police raided the residence of Jahirul Islam in Dhubri town and recovered 16 rounds of live ammunition of  AK-47 rifles. Police arrested him subsequently.

Arrested Islam, who runs a mobile shop, is a resident of Bahadurtary (Newghat) area in Dhubri town.

Police said Islam could not furnish any license or document for possisesing live ammunition.

The seizure of live bullets in huge quantity of AK-47 rifles from Dhubri town areas is definitely a cause for worry, said Dhubri superintendent of police (SP) Ananda Mishra.

A case under various sections of the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered against Islam.

The SP said police are investigating his possible links with terror groups.
