Guwahati : A court in Assam ’s Kokrajhar on Tuesday sentenced a man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2022.

The accused, identified as 30-year-old Injamamul Haque, lured the teenager out of her home on the pretext of taking her to tuition.

However, she was kidnapped and taken to Delhi from Assam where was she held for four days and sexually assaulted by the accused.

The police later rescued the girl and arrested Haque.

Special Judge J Koch of Kokrajhar Court found Haque guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sentencing him to 15 years in prison.

The court also added an extra three months of imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Moreover, under Section 368 of the Indian Penal Code, Haque was fined Rs 5,000 and given a five-year prison sentence with an extra month of imprisonment without the option of a fine.
