Doomdooma: A man from Assam’s Jorhat district was killed after being hit by the Ledo-Rangiya passenger train near the Ashok Nagar railway crossing in Makum, Tinsukia district, on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tapan Ghosh, a resident of Titabor in Jorhat district. He died on the spot after being struck by the train at around 6 a.m.
According to preliminary information, the train was travelling from Ledo to Rangiya when it hit Ghosh near the railway track close to the Ashok Nagar railway gate.
Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot, secured the area and began an investigation.
Police said an Aadhaar card recovered from the deceased helped establish his identity.
After completing the required legal formalities, the body was sent to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Railway police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident. Officials said the exact cause of the death is yet to be established, including whether it resulted from an accidental track crossing or any other circumstance.
