Guwahati: A man was arrested from the Byrnihat area on the Assam-Meghalaya border with a huge consignment of alleged stolen mobile phones on Friday.
The apprehended person has been identified as Biru Boro, 22, a resident of Nongkorla, Byrnihat in Ri-bhoi, Meghalaya.

He was arrested in connection with Sonapur PS Case No. 198/2024.

Boro was arrested at 15th Mile Byrnihat on the Assam-Meghalaya border and found in possession of 20 suspected stolen mobile phones.

Police sources informed that they recovered 20 mobile phones from various brands, including Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, POCO, Redmi, and Realme.

Along with the phones, one scooter bearing registration number AS15U9646 was also seized.
During the investigation, police found that Boro allegedly received the stolen phones from thieves and snatchers at Khanapara flyover point.
He was arrested under Sections 303(2), 317(2), and 317(4) of the BNS.
Further investigation is ongoing.
