A man, identified by Amir Ali, has been arrested by Bajali police for killing his 12-year-old son, Ali Hussain.
The incident took place in Sauliabari village under Sarupeta police outpost in Bajali sub-division of Barpeta district.
As per reports, the child died as his father Amir Ali along with some people stabbed him with a sharp weapon after a scuffle that broke out between the two on Monday.
After killing, the man left the body of the child near a pond in a paddy field.
The body with marks of multiple injuries was recovered by the locals.
Sources said, the father initially denied his involvement in the killing and blamed others for the child’s death.
But after an initial investigation with the help of a sniffer dog, the police came to know about the father’s involvement in the child’s murder and immediately arrested Amir Ali.
Police sources said, in order to divert the attention of the police, Amir Ali even went to Sarupeta police outpost along with some villagers to report about the incident.
Later, during interrogation, the culprit admitted to having committed the crime.
A Bajali police team, led by Birinchi Kumar Borah, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bajali and police officer Nayan Jyoti Deka, carried out the operation and nabbed the culprit.
It is learnt that ill-fated Ali Hussain was Amir Ali’s stepson.
Amir Ali’s second wife took her son Ali Hussain along with her after the second marriage.
The incident has created shockwaves in the locality.
Later, the body of the victim was sent for conducting post-mortem at Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College & Hospital, Barpeta, and further investigation is going on.
