Guwahati: The Crime Branch has apprehended a man from Sivasagar in Assam for allegedly duping numerous people using the name of the Chief Minister’s Officer on Duty.

According to the latest reports, Kaustav Baruah was arrested from Sivasagar’s Simaluguri.

He is accused of being involved in a massive scam that duped numerous individuals of over Rs 1 crore.

Baruah, along with his mother and wife allegedly promised jobs and contracts, “misusing” the name of Chief Minister’s OSD to gain trust.

It may be mentioned that his mother was arrested on August 23 for swindling lakhs of rupees from 25-30 people by “falsely” claiming to be associated with the OSD and seeking funds for his wife’s treatment.

The scam came to light when a suspicious victim confronted her.

Kaustav Baruah, who posed as the Chief Minister’s personal doctor, is accused of threatening victims with a weapon and being involved in the health department job scam with his wife.

Further investigation is being carried out, a police source said.
