Manipur Assam: Man accused of robber injured in police firing in Boko

Guwahati: A man accused of being a robber was shot and injured during police action on Sunday at the Lampara area of Boko in Kamrup, Assam.

A report stated that the man injured has been identified as Kenaram Basumatary (36), alias Moto.

He was accused of being involved in multiple robberies in the region.

A source said the accused was arrested earlier on Friday and was in police custody.

However, on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, he attempted to flee from police custody.

The source said that leaving no choice, the police had to resort to controlled firing in order to stop him from escaping.

The police later recovered Basumatary in an injured state and he was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

The source further informed that Basumatary was involved in several robbery and theft-related activities across Assma and Meghalaya.

He runs a gang that involves ATM theft and robberies.

An investigation is being carried out to trace other people who may be linked with Basumatary.
