A doctor from Majuli died due to Covid-19 as Assam reported fresh cases on Monday.
Aswini Kumar Dutta, who served as the Subdivision Medical and Health Officer of Majuli, succumbed to the infection at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).

50-year-old Dutta, a resident of Seujpur in Jorhat, had tested positive on February 19 and was on self-medication.
When the physician’s condition deteriorated he was admitted to the JMCH on February 23.
In the past month, Jorhat has witnessed very few positive cases, with zero detection on most of the days.

Jorhat district has so far recorded 12,323 cases and a total of 12,169 patients have been discharged.
A total of 59 deaths registered in the state and the number of active cases stand at 13.
