The inside of the park, located on the bank of Brahmaputra River, is fraught with wild grass and jungles, with broken pieces of stones and bricks strewn all across.

The park was opened by local MLA and Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Gandhi Maidam, where Mahtama Gandhi addressed a huge public meeting on January 9, 1946.

When the park was launched in 2017, it was expected that it would draw tourists from different places; however, it fell into disrepair.

Due to lack of maintenance, the park now has turned into a safe haven for stray dogs and other wild animals.

“It was shocking to witness the pathetic condition of the park. It is a sheer humiliation for the father of the nation,” said Jitu Malakar, a local resident.
