An earthquake of magnitude 2.9 on the Richter scale hit central Assamโ€™s Morigaon and Sonitpur district at 1.32 am on Tuesday.

As per National Center for Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was 56 kilometres southwest of Tezpur.

The quake struck at a depth of 15 km from the surface.

No report of loss of life or damage to property has been received yet.

A similar quake of magnitude 3.6 on the Richter Scale struck Assam and Meghalaya on February 25.
