An earthquake of magnitude 2.9 on the Richter scale hit central Assam’s Morigaon and Sonitpur district at 1.32 am on Tuesday.

As per National Center for Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was 56 kilometres southwest of Tezpur.

The quake struck at a depth of 15 km from the surface.

No report of loss of life or damage to property has been received yet.

A similar quake of magnitude 3.6 on the Richter Scale struck Assam and Meghalaya on February 25.
