North Lakhimpur: A youth from Assam’s Lakhimpur district travelling to Bengaluru has been reportedly missing from train in Odisha.ย
Utpal Handique from Rongoti, Dhalpur in Assam’s Lakhimpur district boarded train on January 2 from Tatibahar station to Bangaluru via Guwahati.
Utpal was going to Bangaluru as an annual verification process before his former employer where he had worked till 2014.
He lost his left hand while working in his place of work and has been under the employerโs compensation emolument that requires a physical verification annually.
According to the family members of the victim, Utpal did not respond to the call from home from January 4 onwards after boarding the train from Guwahati on the previous day.
As told by his family members, a co-passenger picked up the phone after repeated ringing of Utpalโs bag left inside the train.
The co-passenger informed them that Utpal was away from his seat for quite some time and quoted other passengers of the coach seeing him being taken by a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at a station near Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Since then there has been no trace of Utpal Henrique.
Anxious family members here have appealed the police to fast track the investigation and urged the Assam Chief Minister for help.
