Guwahati: Schools in Assamโs Lakhimpur district will start classes earlier, effective Monday, as authorities have altered the daily schedule to protect students from the prevailing heat.
According to an order issued by the district education authorities, schools from lower primary to senior higher secondary level will begin classes at 7 am. The revised schedule will remain effective until further orders.
The directive, issued by Lakhimpur District Circle Inspector of Schools and District Primary Education Officer Bedabrata Gogoi, sets different closing times based on the level of education.
Lower primary students will be dismissed at 11 am, while classes for upper primary students will continue until 11:30 am. Students studying in high schools, higher secondary and senior higher secondary classes will attend school until noon.
The change covers government, provincialised and private schools operating across the district.
Education authorities said the decision was prompted by the ongoing hot weather conditions and rising daytime temperatures. By shifting school hours to the morning, officials aim to reduce studentsโ exposure to the more intense heat later in the day.
The revised arrangement will continue until the department issues further instructions.
