Assam: Lakhimpur Police announces cash reward for information on Sunil Gogoi murder

Lakhimpur: The police have announced a significant cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the brutal murder of Sunil Gogoi in Dhakuakhana of Lakhimpur, Assam.

This announcement was made by Lakhimpur SP Aparna Natarajan during a press release in North Lakhimpur today. The police have assured that the identity of the informant will be protected.

Sunil Gogoi, a BJP leader and JJM contractor, was found murdered on the night of June 1.

His headless, charred body was discovered in a som plantation at Laokath-Naharani Pathar in Sapotia-Chetiagaon, Dhakuakhana. The case, registered under Dhakuakhana PS Case No. 39/24 U/S 120(B)/302/201/34 IPC, has shocked the local community.

Earlier this week, Assam DGP GP Singh personally visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation.

DGP Singh expressed the unprecedented nature of the crime in Assam and emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation.

A team from the IGP-CID and the forensic science laboratory has been stationed in Dhakuakhana since Monday, with a renowned forensic expert expected to join soon.

Additionally, the investigation is exploring possible connections to a PHE engineer recently detained by the Vigilance department in Guwahati.

The police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward, with the assurance of anonymity and a suitable cash reward.
