Krishnakanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) Vice-Chancellor Kandarpa Das has been suspended on Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi’s order.

Vice-Chancellor Das has been reportedly suspended for his alleged involvement in Gauhati University’s Institute Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) scam.

Das was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Krishnakanta Handique State Open University in March last year.

He had served as the Director of the (IDOL), Gauhati University for two terms during 2006 – 2016.

The one-man commission probing the scam at Gauhati University’s IDOL had called for action against the vice-chancellors, registrars and directors (IDOL) of the period when the irregularities took place.

The probe panel headed by Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia in its report mentioned that Gauhati University vice chancellors, registrars and directors (IDOL) were found “responsible in terms of the issue-wise findings”.

According to the report, the number of unapproved courses in the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) is 23 and not 21 as reported by CAG.

Eight courses under the postgraduate programme, eight under the PG diploma programme, four undergraduate programmes, one diploma programme and two certificate programmes by IDOL during 2010-17 were unapproved, the report said.
