The Central Institute of Technology (CIT) in Kokrajhar of Assam celebrated the declaration of deemed-to-be-university under De-novo Category at its premises on Monday.

The Government of India (GOI) notified the status on December 13 last year for publication in the Gazette of India.

The function was attended by the Chairman, BoG, Director CIT and other distinguished guests.

The Director of CIT, Prof Debkumar Chakrabarti welcomed the guests and spoke a little about the history of the Institute to attaining a ‘deemed-to-be-university’ status under De-novo Category.

He spoke about the way forward towards becoming a premier institute of the region and the nation. As one of the immediate requirements five De-novo courses covering new and emerging areas of specialization having high relevance to the region are going to be started viz, i) Food Engineering & Technology, ii) Multimedia Communication & Design, iii) Indigenous Artefacts and Design Heritage, iv) Green Energy Technology  and v) Water Resources and Management.

He also mentioned about a sixth programme basically in Agricultural Science & Technology (right from production to marketing) having a wide range of study and aspects.

He mentioned that under a modular structure, the Institute would cater to various courses starting from ‘Certificate to PhD level’ with options to exit or take entry at different levels.

Carol Narzary, Secretary, IBA, BTC, Kokrajhar expressed his feelings and said that he had seen CIT since its infant stage, stage of youth and now a grown up man.

Chaitali Brahma, Registrar of the Institute acknowledged the contribution of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati which has been the mentor to the Institute since its inception.

Brahma expressed her gratitude to the members of the CIT Society, BoG, the Academic Committee, all faculty and staff members of the Institute.

She also expressed her thanks and gratitude to the BTC authorities and all others who directly and indirectly contributed towards the development of the Institute.

She expressed that the support and advice of all well-wishers and the efforts of faculty and staff will continue in the Institute’s future path of progress under new beginning as a deemed-to-be-university.
