Dr. Amal Mashahary, who served as the district surveillance officer (DSO) and district immunity officer at RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, died of COVID19 infection on Monday.

Dr Mashahary, who was also one of the commanders of the fight against pandemic in Kokrajhar, passed away at 12 noon in Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) after losing the battle against COVID19 infection.

He was taken to GMCH almost two weeks back after he tested COVID19 positive at Kokrajhar and was undergoing treatment in ICU.

Mashahary died at 53.

He is survived by his wife Debasuki Brahma and a son, who is studying in Class 5.

Soft-spoken Masharay hailed from Sarapara in Rongjuli of Goalpara district.

Brought up in a poor family, Mashahary started his primary education in his village and passed the Class X examination in 1st division in Assamese from Rongjuli Higher Secondary School.

He passed the HS examination in Science stream from B. Barooah College in Guwahati.

Later, he passed the MBBS from GMC and joined the service at RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar in 1997.

He was very popular figure and loved by all both in Kokrajhar and Rongjuli.

The doctors, nurses, staff, leaders of various organizations, individuals including former Rajya Sabha MP, UG Brahma expressed deep shock over his demise and prayed for his eternal peace.

Meanwhile, another additional deputy commissioner of Kokrajhar, Pranjal Das and his family have tested COVID19 positive on Monday, the Kokrajhar deputy commissioner informed.

Besides, BTC public relations officer, Sameswar Basumatary, his wife and a daughter, and the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kokrajhar PS, Binanda Basumatary, also tested COVID19 positive on Monday.

Earlier, two ADCs of Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Das, Debajit Bora and the district project manager of NHM, Kokrajhar, Uttam Kr. Brahma tested positive for COVID19.

The Kokrajhar superintendent of police (SP), Rakesh Roushan and his family tested positive for COVID19 on Sunday.
