Assam: Kokrajhar all set to conduct free, fair and peaceful Lok Sabha election

The Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar district in Assam who is also the returning officer of 5-Kokrajhar (ST) Parliamentary constituency is all set for a smooth conduct of Lok Sabha election in the constituency.

Partha Pratim Mazumdar, returning officer, 5-Kokrajhar (ST) HPC informed that there were 10 Legislative Assembly segments in 5-Kokrajhar (ST) HPC namely 28-Gossaigaon, 29-Kokrajhar West (ST), 30-Kokrajhar East (ST), 31-Sidli (ST), 33-Bijni, 40-Sorbhog, 41-Bhabanipur, 58-Tamulpur, Barama (ST), and Chapaguri (ST).

As of now, the total number of voters in the constituency is 17,48,827, out of which 1,82,260 voters are in Gossaigaon, 1,76,291 are in Kokrajhar West, 1,80,547 are Kokrajhar East, 2,05,872 are in Sidli, 1,49,338 are in Bijni, 1,93,738 are in Tamulpur, 1,56,887are in Barama, 1,50,015 are in Chapaguri, 2,14,213 are in Sorbhog and 1,39,666 voters are in Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.

The Parliamentary Constituency has 8,93,237 male and 8,55,590 female voters including 8,813 service voters and 2,171 People with Disabilities (PwD) voters, he added.

He further added that for smooth, free and fair conduct of election, various cells like expenditure monitoring cell (EMC), video surveillance team (VST), video viewing team (VVT), static surveillance team (SST), flying squad (FS), liquor monitoring cell,  media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) etc have already been formed by the respective district election officers to check anti-social activities, illegal transactions, use of liquor, paid news or advertisements under the supervision of senior administrative officers.

He further informed about the steps being taken for imparting training to the polling personnel, arrangements for providing facilities to be put up in the polling stations for the People with Disabilities (PwD) and elderly people.

Likewise, to ensure maximum voters’ turnout and people’s participation in the ensuing election process under SVEEP and to make people familiar with the EVM and VVPAT, cVisil and Suvidha apps, various awareness campaigs are being organized at block, PS & VCDC level as well as at educational institutions and various public places.
